Drying Cascade Hops.

My first attempt. Today I harvested 2oz. of cascade cones with the intention of brewing a half gallon of beer this weekend. We will see if this ends up being enough dry weight. I am leaving them on the floor of the oven above the pilot light as suggested by the guy at the homebrew store.

Dry they got down to a little less then an ounce. I put them in with a 1l extraction of maris otter.

unrelated note here is a crazy caterpillar that was attacking the hops

DIY Pickled Peppers

Reused the pickling juice from banana peppers. Seems like a safe simple way to get the right preservatives.

what to do with all this zucchini.

giant zucchini
Pulling out some huge zucchini like this 3.5lb beauty.

zucchini lasagna recipe
#1 Zucchini lasagna. per this recipe. one big zuke is all that is needed for a tray. Not exactly healthy but it sure was tasty.

#2 Zucchini kabob.
brush on olive oil mixed with garlic, salt, black pepper, and garlic. Grill. I like to also sprinkle on some Cajun seasoning.

#3 Breaded fried zucchini. Adjusted from this recipe. add crushed red pepper and increase the amount of salt. an alternative is to buy powdered just add water tempura mix. I fry them in Canola. Keep your oil for next time.

#4 Zucchini Parmesean. Amelia's creation. peel slice and then boil a huge zuke. egg and then bread crumbs. baked with mozzarella. Show with hydroponic basil and garden roma caprese. as well as garden beefsteak tomato pasta sauce.

#5Chocolate Zucchini Cake. Discussed in this post. Chocolate zucchini cupcakes with hops. just don't add the hops and put it in a tray.

Very simple casting. No special tools.

Went camping this weekend and I though I would try to cast some aluminum with only the normal things you bring on a camping trip. I used:

an ax.
can that food came in.
BBQ tongs.
a Fire.
Aluminum(three soda cans and some aluminum foil)

Pounded the aluminum sources flat as I could.

put the aluminum in a can in the fire.

poured onto the fire ring.
