DIY: Fix IKEA bed slates falling (Aneboda, Malm, sultan)

Ikea man guy is sad because the slats fall out
So having an Ikea bed that the slats fall out of makes you feel like this. But there is an easy fix. Get a big sheet of cardboard and and staple gun (or brads) and attach all of the stales together so that they cannot shift and fall out. comment if you have tried this or have another great way to fix this common problem

IKEA slats falling repair MALM Anaedoba

IKEA bed with slats stapled to cardboard prevents them from falling.

Just attach them all together and they cannot shift enough to fall through. Push them all they way out first.

I used the box they came in and a staple gun but you could probably use brads if you don't have a staple gun.

(update: 2/3/09 this is still working. they have not fallen through once since I did this.)

  2. so all you did was put cardboard in the middle then stapled the opposite sides on the cardboard to the slates?

  3. yes. the problem was that they slip. the stiffness of the cardboard is enough to stop them from slipping.

  4. Googled "falling IKEA bed slats" and found this page. I had bought a Leirvik queen bed and the Sultan Lien slats kept falling through. Bought a staple gun and used the cardboard from the box, too. This totally works- THANK YOU!

  5. Thanks! very happy that it worked out. now you will have to think of other fun things to do with your new staple gun

  6. There should be some plastic pegs to go into the metal rails and stretch the bed slats out, then the fabric straps holding the straps together are kept taught, and the slats can't move, so don't fall through?

  7. I have the same problem. The cheap fabric that holds the slats taught easily break and then the slats shift and slide. I'm going to try this plus add a dowel down the middle support to keep the slats out as far as they go just in case the staples fail or something.

  9. I got an used ikea bed for my son and the slats are driving me bananas. I replace the puny plastic pegs that are supoused to keep them in place with sturdier taller metal ones and didn't make a difference. I am trying this doc mike ! I also think the lasts are not long enough... And they are a bit curved, hope the cardboard is enough. Will report back!!! We need to sleep!!!

  10. The staples are falling out of the ribbon connecting the slats. It's crazy.
