Kuchi Kopi Nightlight DIY Cast

kuchi kopi nightlight for sale
Until Kuchi Kopi nightlights are available for sale you might just have to cast your own in bees wax. though I guess you can get one that does not light up from Kidrobot.

Original positive in wax after being cut out of the mold. Sculpted by hand and then used to build mold. This time I used a 2 part food safe silicone mold. (Equinox 40 from smooth-cast)

The bottom is carved out by hand and LED tealight was attached to the bottom after popping off the top of the tea light.

Tiny Lingam Sculpture

tiny lingam sculpture ankor period lingam

This is a zinc plated cap nut and square nut, roughed with steel wool and patina with cupric sulfate. In the top right is one from a collection from Collector without Walls: Norton Simon and His Hunt for the Best

In short this is an interesting sculptural form representing a hindu trinity "Brahma the creator, Vishnu the maintainer or preserver and Shiva the destroyer"

For more information on this I would recommend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingam.
Necklace version to come.

Little wax animals

Got a confidence boost from the successful casting of the lost wax hand bottle opener and I want to do mere with wax even though I have had trouble with burn out in the past. Here are a few quick sketches of a wax bull and horse.

Carving the Tip of a Pencil.

pencil tip carved sculpture
What Dalton Ghetti does makes carving crayons seem crude... which makes me feel stupid. So I thought I would try to imitate/flatter/plagiarizer what he does. Here is my first attempt at carving a tip of a pencil to make a small abstract sculpture. I call it figure looking over its shoulder. I am also open to suggestions on the best way to photograph things this small.

How to take a three dimensional (3-D) photo.

Mikeisbored now in threedee.
This is by far the simplest method to take 3d photos and requires no special software. I will be writing up a more reliable method with a lazy Susan.... once I figure on e out. But for now if you have steady hands the short of it is:
-take one photo of an object carefully centering the image on one specific spot.
-move the camera 3" to the left or right and center on THE EXACT SAME SPOT. take another photo.
-photoshop the two photos together. Or just open both next to each other and use Grab(on a mac) or screen capture(on a PC)
-TO VIEW: sit 3' back from computer screen and cross your eyes until you line up the two images in the middle.

These photos taken with my great new Canon PowerShot SD780IS
This dude is the portrait i did in sculpture class of a friend of mine. sawdust glued on a frame of wire and paper.

This has a future as a Halloween costume but I am not sure exactly how yet.

alberto giacometti inspired lost foam failure

Recently... well in july. was in DC and saw a bunch of great giacometti pieces. Mostly find the texture compelling and think it can be done in lost foam. unfortunately the very thin portions do not lend themselves to the process.

dyed concrete last supper sculpture

I am not certain what these are made of but in a big overgrown area on Macalester's campus there were a bunch of religious sculptures that seemed to be made of a dyed concrete. I never wandered in before the brush was cleared but I had seen a glimpse of the cross and had thought it was a grave.
